Bring the Outdoors In: Summer-Inspired Design Tips

Bring the Outdoors In: Summer-Inspired Design Tips

Welcome to The Tip Jar! This week for #TipTuesday we are talking all about “summa summa summa time” (you have to sing that part!) and how to prepare your homes interior for the new season.

The end of May is always the unofficial start of summer, and I don’t know about you, but I am super excited about it! With summer season get-togethers right around the corner, I wanted to highlight a few tips on how to get your home feeling summer-inspired.

Right now is the perfect time to start styling your home with decor that embodies the spirit of the new season. In this blog post, we'll explore ideas and inspiration for creating a summer-inspired living space that brings the outdoors in. From incorporating natural elements to embracing vibrant colors and breezy textiles, let's explore elements of design that captures the spirit of summer.

  1. Highlight Natural Materials: Add the beauty of natural materials in your home decor by incorporating materials such as rattan, jute, bamboo, and wood. Consider adding a statement rattan chair, a jute rug, or wooden accents that fill your space with a warmth and texture that complements the summer season. Bonus: Adding natural elements to your design adds a beautiful contrast to your interior finishes, year round.

  2. Light and Airy Color Palette: Select a light and airy color palette that highlights the bright and refreshing feeling of summer. Whites, pastels, and soft neutrals can instantly create a breezy and relaxed atmosphere. And playing with pops of vibrant colors like yellows, aqua blues, or citrus-inspired palettes will add visual interest, energy and cheerfulness to your space.

  3. Bring in Greenery: Adding plants and flowers into your space not only brings the outdoors in, but it helps create a relaxing and inviting atmosphere. Choose low-maintenance houseplants like pothos or snake plants to add pops of greenery to your living spaces. Additionally, floral arrangements or potted herbs can introduce yummy scents and vibrant colors to your home.

  4. Let Natural Light In: Maximize the natural light in your home by keeping windows unobstructed and using light-filtering curtains or blinds. Natural light not only brightens up a space but also enhances its overall aesthetic appeal. Consider rearranging furniture or mirrors strategically to reflect and increase the sunlight, creating an inviting and cheerful atmosphere.

  5. Refresh with Textiles: Swap out heavy fabrics and embrace lightweight textiles that are perfect for the summer season. Go for sheer or lightweight curtains, linen or cotton slipcovers, and airy throw pillows in vibrant prints or botanical patterns. These textiles will create a sense of lightness and add some texture and visual interest to your home decor.

  6. Create a Cozy Outdoor Nook: Preparing for summer doesn’t just mean inside your home. Design a cozy outdoor spot or bring a touch of the outdoors to your patio or balcony. Add comfortable seating with weather-resistant cushions, accent it with outdoor rugs and lanterns, and surround the space with potted plants. This dedicated outdoor area will provide the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the summer breeze.

With summer right around the corner, take this opportunity to refresh and bring new life to your living spaces with a summer-inspired design. By incorporating natural materials, embracing light and airy colors, bringing in greenery, and creating cozy outdoor spaces, you will create spaces that evoke the summer season.
