The Tip Jar: Our First Ever Tip Tuesday- What Your Decor is Saying About You

Welcome to The Tip Jar and to our first ever Tip Tuesday. I know, I know, this is in no way a new concept, but it is a first for us.

I am so excited about this series. Here you will find a new tip each week highlighting different aspects of design how to’s, do’s and dont’s, and everything in between. So if you have a burning question you need answered, send them my way, you may just find the answer in The Tip Jar.

This week for “Tip Tuesday” I will be highlighting what home decor items you should be incorporating in your spaces, and how to do it.

The best thing to consider when choosing home decor items is to always incorporate elements that are personal and unique to you. While following trends can be fun, adding your own personal touch will make your space feel more authentic and reflect your personality. Here are some tips to achieve this:

  1. Put meaningful items on display: Highlight objects, artwork, or photographs that hold sentimental value or unforgettable memories. This adds a personal touch, showing that you LIVE in your home, and gives you the opportunity to share your memories with visitors.
  2. Be eclectic, mix and match styles: Design with what makes you feel “at home”. Don't feel restricted to sticking with a single decor style, just because design boards and trends might tell you you should. Experiment with blending different aesthetics to create a personal and unique space that brings you joy. For example, combine vintage pieces with modern elements or mix rustic and contemporary styles.
  3. Don’t be afraid to DIY: Consider simple do-it-yourself projects to create unique and customized decor items. It could be as simple as refinishing a piece of furniture in a bold color or creating your own artwork for the walls. These handmade touches add character to your home.
  4. Play with colors and patterns: Don't be afraid to experiment with different color schemes and patterns. Use vibrant colors or bold patterns as accent pieces, such as throw pillows, rugs, or curtains, to make a statement and bring life into your space. Create cohesion in your home by pulling elements of color & patterns from room to room.
  5. Bring the outdoors in: Decorating with natural elements like plants, flowers, or natural materials such as wood, stone, or woven textures adds so much life to a space. These elements not only add visual interest but also create a relaxing & refreshing atmosphere.

Remember, the key is to make your home a reflection of you. Trust your instincts and have fun while exploring different ideas to create a space that truly feels like your own. And, if you ever feel stuck or just need a second set of eyes, I am always here to help.

Be sure to follow along for next weeks #TipTuesday

xoxo, Sim
